#Trending

A large part of Social Media Management & Audience Development - beyond analytics & insights - is keeping your ears open to new (and fleeting) Social trends. From “Wrong answers only…” to “If you don’t love me at my ___” to… whatever’s happening right now, you need to stay aware AND find a way to insert your IP into the conversation. And that ain’t always easy, as fans are quick to point out. A few trend-spotting examples I’m proud of are…

Star Butterfly without context.

This originated from seeing a number of posts featuring absurd screengrabs and subtitles, with the post copy simply saying “[Movie/Show] without context.” It’s a simple post that took roughly 8 minutes to conceptualize, create, and publish, but lets the audience know that we’re paying attention, and better yet, we [kinda] get it.

#10YearChallenge

Next is Disney XD’s version of the #10YearChallenge, popular in early 2019. None of our series or talent have spanned a decade to let us show their “glo-up”, but the Disney XD logo did go through a rebrand a few years back, allowing us to organically take part in this trend. Plus, we learned that most fans preferred the old logo!

Harnessing Platform Interface

Knowing that a double-tap leads to the ❤️ icon showing up in the middle of an Instagram post, we modified this close-up of Star Butterfly to remove her trademark cheek hearts. So, a double-tap on this image allowed our fans to “complete” Star’s look, and also earned us a mess of Likes!
